Count Down to Our Meeting… May 26th, 2008
Not sure how we ended up here, but SUDDENLY, it’s May and that means we have our last Halton Council Meeting …
Date: Monday, May 26th
Time: 7:15pm
Location: Sam Sherratt P.S. (649 Laurier Avenue, Milton)
I have invited Olga Vigil, Youth Settlement worker with the Halton Multicultural Council to speak with us. Olga has a short presentation and will be able to answer any questions we have about the services available to our students.
Highlights for Monday’s discussion include: HDSB PIC (Parent Involvement Committee) Update, OFHSA Conference update, SEAC report and well… the traditional sharing and discussions as directed by the group.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Parents On Board… Conference Over View:
W.H. Morden parent, Amy McKenzie, was one of many parents from Halton to attend conference this past weekend at Sheridan. Her thoughts are below:
Together as parents we represent thousands and thousands of volunteer hours spent partnering with schools to deliver everything from reading programs to hot lunches and hundreds of thousands of fundraising dollars. Halton Council of Home and School Associations was particularly grateful for the excellent representation from our Board, with workshop speakers such as Jacki Oxley (Coping with Bullying), Dave Lewis (High Skills Diploma) and our Trustee, Don Vrooman (The Role of the Trustee). Director Wayne Joudrie also spoke at the Saturday night supper and was certainly well received there. There were also three separate workshops with a technology focus, including Smart Boards, which many Home and School Associations are currently working on the fundraising for. Informed parents are better partners with their Board and the Ministry of Education, and in that regard the Conference was a great success.

Get Ready to Be Informed!
Ok, over the next couple of days I will be updating the blog with OFHSA conference information and various other bits of news…. so…
Today’s news: … a reminder to complete the SCHOOL EFFECTIVENESS SURVEY, which is available on-line through the HDSB website (www.hdsb.ca) only until MAY 9th.
This is an important way for us to provide the board with some direct input and evaluation! Please encourage your school community to take part.
